The Story Behind StudyGuideAI

Why I Built This

I'm Professor Reza Ebadi. I've been teaching at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) since 2021, following five years at the University of New Hampshire (UNH). After nearly a decade of teaching engineering, I've seen how much students' learning practices have shifted, yet one core challenge remains: too much energy goes into simply keeping track of materials instead of focusing on real learning.

I wanted to create a platform that helps students organize their work, improve comprehension and retention, and lower the stress that comes with scattered notes and endless PDFs. There are many tools available that happen to include features for students, but they are built to serve broad audiences. This project is different. It was designed with students at the center, shaped by their feedback, and meant to evolve with their needs.

What Makes This Different

Evolving With Students

This platform is not a finished product but a living ecosystem. It grows with feedback from students, the same way I refine my teaching from one term to the next. Instead of waiting for a large company to roll out a change that may or may not help, I can respond directly to what students tell me works or doesn't. That kind of responsiveness is what keeps this platform alive and growing.

This isn't corporate software with annual updates. Your suggestion this week could be next week's feature.

Designed From Real Needs

Most educational apps are built by developers who think they know what students need. Every element of the platform reflects situations I've seen students face: losing time organizing files, struggling to recall key ideas before exams, or feeling anxious about how to approach dense material. The features are not abstract add-ons but direct responses to those challenges.

Privacy That Respects Academic Integrity

Academic work is personal. Your materials contain your understanding, your notes, your intellectual effort. This platform treats them with the respect they deserve:

  • Files remain on our servers
  • Your content is processed anonymously
  • No behavioral tracking or engagement metrics
  • Generated content vanishes after your session
  • You're not training AI models with your homework

My Commitment to Students

  • There will always be a free tier with real value
  • Features come from student needs, not market research
  • Academic integrity is essential
  • The tool supports learning without creating dependency
  • Student wellbeing matters more than engagement metrics
  • You’ll get direct support from me, not bots

A Final Thought

If you feel overwhelmed by coursework, you’re not alone. Most students struggle with organization, not ability. Start small, keep things manageable, and remember that asking for help is a strength, not a weakness.
